Coast Guard to Eliminate Passport-Style Merchant Mariner Credential on March 1, 2024






Starting March 1, 2024, the U.S. Coast Guard will issue Merchant Mariner Credentials (MMCs) in a new format, replacing the old red book and endorsement labels. The new MMCs are printed on 8.5” x 11” waterproof paper with enhanced security features. Starting March 1, all new MMCs will be issued in this format, including endorsements, with no more separate stickers. Your current MMC remains valid until its expiration date.
